First topic message reminder :

Hi. My name is Hunny. I created and run this site.
This section is for "diaries" (they're like the members' walls, here),
but mine will have to be an "Editor's Blog", since I'm running this.
You can get a little inside understanding of what goes on behind
the scenes here, what thinking is behind the building of Ferbles.
Also some days, I may just post a personal entry because, well, this
is my wall too.

I looked into going to Finland to see my friends.
It would cost $5,000.00 U.S. to go there for 2 weeks.
The time to go is July, when it's warm and sunny.
(It was minus 54 degrees F in January 1999. The
winter there is cold and snow covered and dark.)
Rovaniemi is a beautiful place (get the you tube
search engine add-on for firefox, and you can see it).
It has much wilderness. The city seems to be about
the size of my city (60,000 people). And it is a tourist
destination. 400,000 people go there each year.
Apparently they want to see the Arctic Circle and
Santa Claus (whom they claim lives there and you
can visit him 365 days a year). Rovaniemi even has a
bar made of ice, in the winter. Things like that and the
aurora borealis must be very beautiful to witness.

I had a visit with JL yesterday and told her how her
country seems like a magic place to people who live in
a more plain place across the sea. She laughed. I was
really glad I stopped by.

These are not friends my heart will ever truly let go of.
The time we shared was really great, and I love their
country as much as them. But i don't imagine I'll ever
really get to visit. An extra $5,000 isn't something I
ever have. And I also wonder what it would be like to
be there. What if i could not understand them when
they speak English to me? And what if we found we
had nothing to talk about, because when you meet
someone in person whom you got to know on the
internet,it can be very different. Still, I'd go, if I ever
got the money to vacation, Finland would be
my first choice.

I sometimes wonder... my great grandmother was Finnish
..can it be in ones blood to love a place as their own?

Well, I've posted some personal stuff lately. But this is not
just the editor's blog, it is also my diary / my 'wall' here.
I do hope if either of them comes here, they dont end up
mad at me for something I said. It happened before and
it affected our friendship a lot, and I never understood what
it was really about. We just fought and it was awful.

I have had friendships online several times. They always
seem to end. And maybe half of them ended badly. I don't
know what it is I do so wrong. I have such a heart.. but I just
accept that this is what can happen. Well, I accept that Bebe
and Laura P. and Caroline, and others are gone. But I don't
accept that Toki should never visit with me. And I wouldn't
accept it if Erika had no time to say hi ever (we talk. I told her
she is stuck with me.)

I also maintain some contact with what few friends I have on facebook.
They're cool. Though I'd rather post here, then there, for a wall. *shrug*

But I know in my heart of hearts, still, the internet is never going to
be like the real world, and I have a circle of RL people to find now.
My life has changed, and is changing radically again. And it seems
every time it does, I lose some friends, but get some new ones. So
yea, I'm all alone here for the moment, with Captain Meow, and the
construction going on outside my office window. It is one of those
inbetween periods for me now.

I'm still convinced the only one who ever reads any of this is the
google bots.

Today I have a long walk to take, and a meeting of sorts to go to
(oh there's two friends there I shouldn't forget to count). And then
I'll be drawing the comic strips that will make me famous (yea, right).
And I'll be drawing every day, until I've developed enough funny material
to start publishing it here. You may have noticed I stopped posting the
dailies at ferbles, but I do the magazine each week still, and I am here
every day, and I can be messaged.

Well, I don't want to complain about anyone, because Erika, for example, was here every day and i couldn't have asked for a better friend at the time. But the friends I started with are all gone now. And I need some new friends who would WORK A LITTLE, like I constantly do, to bring ferbles alive.

There are small things to do, a small daily effort is all it takes to be supportive. 1 -Post a comment at a new post, always. 2-Tell your friends.3-Post the link around. That's all. That's not hard. But it does take some dedication to the place. Daily effort. Giving a damn.

You know what most forums do about this? They make THEIR "founding members" moderators. And that instantly motivates them to come every day, and act like they have some responsibility for the place. Well, we're not going to have any spying bullies called "moderators here. We're not forming an aristocracy for the few to enjoy and the many to cow under. So I didn't do that.

But I did offer them all a piece of the magazine. They claimed to be writers, so I offered to let them write a piece each week and be published. And that is something I can still offer now.

What i can't offer (enough) is that it's a big deal to me to let someone do some of the work on MY thing (or to not view it as "MY thing"). It is hard for me..to let go of control of what has my name and reputation on it. So it was an honor for them to have been offered. Though ultimately I need to not think of it that way. I need to see this whole site as a community project, because it's supposed to be. The members are supposed to build it. Not me all by myself as has been happening here.

Moreover, I keep suggesting someone just bring their friends and invade the place, take it over. And I feel a bit mystified why Ferbles isn't seen as prime fertile territory to lay claim to. But no one does.

There was a time when I was a popular member of a very big forum, and if I had started this site then, dozens of the members there would have followed me here. And that's what we need. Some unsatisfied forum creatures looking for new ground.

People, there isn't even any rules here! You can swear a little, post mild nudity (not porn though, you'd get us shut down with that). But it's the wild west allover again, meaning all you'd have to do is say "this is mine" and there's no one here to argue with you

Well, I understand this stuff. Maybe the right people just haven't seen the place yet (or maybe ferbles kind of sucks and I don't know it. *shrug*) But bottom line is we need to advertise so people come see it, or nothing will ever happen!

Okay, I'm going to go draw now, and also try and make a youtube out of the turtle boy.

Meanwhile if you want to hang out here, there is always google bots here everyday (*a "bot" is a little robot program that comes and scans all the pages here, so they can show up in google searches). There are 6 of them here even as I type this. One word of warning though, they suck at making conversation with. Razz
