Editor's Blog, by Hunny
Hi. My name is Hunny. I created and run this site.
This section is for "diaries" (they're like the members' walls, here),
but mine will have to be an "Editor's Blog", since I'm running this.
You can get a little inside understanding of what goes on behind
the scenes here, what thinking is behind the building of Ferbles.
Also some days, I may just post a personal entry because, well, this
is my wall too.

Dear Diary-
This isn't so easy, making a website, and a magazine, and making it popular. It's a big task I took on. But, well, I must do it.
Erika came last night and I was so pleased to see her here. She's such a friend.
Now if only Toki would come
Anyway, here's Erika and I online together at BS!
(Oh it's cool to have admin tools!)

Re: Editor's Blog, by Hunny
Dear Diary -
The site isn't done, it isn't even named, and the magazine has growing to do, but I posted the first issue anyway, and started inviting people to come. There's enough things posted here to have some fun now.
Oh how this differs from the last diary I kept at a forum. ...I was at an alternate forum of a forum which was ill. And we would discuss its problems, but were largely powerless to fix any of them. So the mood was frustrated, and gripey.
I'm not gonna name names, but really, can you imagine a forum where they open your mail, and censor you for saying "heck", and bullies make the decisions??? It was a nightmare of a place. I'm glad that time is past now.
Having said that though, I cut my teeth in those last two forums (and one of them was actually a nice place). I learned everything I know there, enough to start my own place.
mm
Before I was there, I was at Yahoo Answers (in P&S), which was a great little community of comics I hooked up with. We would post gag questions to illicit joke responses from all our funny friends there, and it was truly great. But they had a report button. And people abused it. So everyone feared each other and closed their accounts away from view.
Simply put, everywhere I've been where they tried to control the place, with rules and threats, all they managed to do was make it awful.
Rules suck.
And report buttons are a nazi device. (Yea, they're a modern use of Hitler's tactic of how to occupy a country without fully being there. (In Poland, instead of posting enough troops to keep people sufficiently threatened, he just made everybody fear each other might report on them. He created a report system.))
And this is what Yahoo Answers did, when they decided they'd need no mods if they just put report buttons everywhere.
Well I don't forget these lessons from history. I knew I was in a bad place there. A lot of people did, and so a lot of people left. Everywhere I've been, rules and mods and report buttons are what has made people leave.
And you know what, why wouldn't they leave? At one of these sites, on average a member would pay hundreds of dollars (US) to be there. We were customers. But they treated us like inmates. So of course they lost members.
Well I am perpetually consternated that humankind has still not strived, even now, to do better than such a barbaric means of organization as to keep people spied upon and under threat as a way of "maintaining order". Only a damn bully or an ignorant person would make the god-awful excuse I too often hear of "There's no other way." Bull shit!
And this is why I'm usually more disgusted at the governed, than those who govern this abusive way, because it's the people themselves who make excuses and allow it to be so awful. They allow a few to terrorize the many (and then claim terrorism is bad) hmmph.
Ya' ever notice, people in authority are always doing all the things they tell you you can't do because they're "bad"? Oh they do! They kill people who kill people, to show that killing people is wrong. Then they go kill a bunch of people!! They stalk, they abuse, they assault and batter, they deal drugs, they organize gambling, and they run protection rackets, to name just a few of the things western governments reserve the right to do, for themselves only. (especially in the US)
Well, communities on the internet tend to run their affairs the same crappy way. I guess all humans are humans, so they act the same, whether it's a whole country or a smaller group of them. ..When will the naked apes truly evolve?
Well, I ramble.
But I'm just sayin'. Rules suck. Control sucks. Bullies are not something we need spying on the members, opening their mail and keeping them under threat. Screw that. We're not doing that here.
If you see someone doing "wrong", just offer to help them. Be nice to them. That's all. It's not hard. It is proven fact: rewarding good behavior can be more effective at causing it to happen, than punishing unwanted behavior can. So let's be smart! Let's be better!
(Hell, if nothing else, surely we could beat the track record of a site like MB, losing 90% of its 500,000 members due to using the "threaten and punish" system. Ya know?)

This magazine will do good, Hunny. Only have patience - remember a community takes time to grow, and a lot of effort from it's members, specially for the pioneer members (:
A lot of luck for you in these, and in life.
I love you very much; you're a great friend to me.
Love,

Re: Editor's Blog, by Hunny
I'm working on an entirely new magazine to produce here.
Maybe not all humor this time. Maybe some shocking stuff.
Some juicy gossipy fun and general naughtiness. There's
gotta' be something we can offer that will bring people
back to read more. And I think I am too used to having to
obey PG rules. So maybe we can relax and enjoy the lack of
restrictions now. We are adults right? Well I'm just throwing
around ideas, but it looks like the Muse might disappear
into the past, and a new magazine could be born. Cheeky.
I still don't know what to call the site. Again, I'm looking for
what elements will make people feel they just gotta' come
back, and tell their friends "you gotta' see this" too. Well I
don't see that I have anything Earth-shaking like that on the
table, but we could trash things here, and post video opinions,
and have a magazine that brings 'em back because it rocks,
and has cliff-hangers each week. We also have no rules, and
that's a unique feature. (Oh I know, you think I'll find I have
to add some, well, you don't know just how strongly I believe
in this then. I'll play God before I'll hire a mod. Perhaps what it's
left to, from there, is a matter of saturation advertising, and providing
a product that has a market for it. Does a magazine and forum have
a market? Well, a physical one doesn't anymore. But that's why I
moved online to do one. This is supposed to be it. This is supposed
to be the brave new world, where fortunes can be made, empires
carved out, new categories established, new niches claimed for filling.
Hmm. Well, at least I took marketing in college. We do have a chance,
because I'm not clueless, and I'm thoroughly creative. We have a chance. But
I need help with this. I cannot do the whole thing all alone. I'd love to get
someone to write me some balls ass good fiction to promote. I don't honestly
know what it should be about, but it needs to appeal to a wide audience.
It can be born on the fringe, but it needs to be capable of going mainstream
Yea, I know, shame on me for wanting to go mainstream. Well, told ya' I took
Business, and I know it's the only place to be if you want money and to be somebody.
I'm somebody. The world just doesn't know it yet. Right? (just say right. Humor me, I'm tired.
Good night folks!

Re: Editor's Blog, by Hunny
Dear Diary-
I'm on the computer 16 hours a day / 7 days a week still, and I promised myself I wouldn't do that.
I do understand starting a business is a ton of work and I am all the employees for the moment, but still, I don't want to make a habit of having no other things in my life.
I'm feeling depressed today. The letter I sent was okay, but I think maybe I hurt a friendship.
And I'm feeling very alone. Oh Erika is here, and I don't know what I'd do without her support and camaraderie, but I can't help thinking I could end up with an empty (or failed) forum that I worked very hard to build. I want people here. Now. Hundreds of them, every day, and in the night. That's how it should be. Well I guess I better keep working if I want to have a chance of having that. Today I'm going to try and name the place and the magazine, to identify the theme here.
Once I've done that, the header can be designed, and ad-links can be created. All kinds of exciting things can happen if I simply name it (like getting a '.com' name).
*JL is logged in *
I wonder what she thinks of the new sections I made yesterday.
It's getting to where it has the forums it will have when it's done.

Tumbles wrote:New sections are cool! All we need is just people to write there :/
Well, the schedule is this:
MONDAYS: advertise the site, all day, to get members.
TUESDAYS + WEDNESDAYS: write the magazine for the week.
THURSDAYS: draw comics, all day (and learn PS & tablet)
FRIDAYS: post the magazine, and be a member!
SATURDAYS: half day-> do site maintenance, post threads etc
SUNDAYS: day off
This week, because of all the work of starting it up / building it,
I can't promise to put in a full day of advertising the site on monday.
(but i'll insist on doing some.) Perhaps we need to drag some friends
here? idk. I also begin to wonder -even though I absolutely don't want mods & rules here at all- if I should make Laura our only, and top secret, watcher of things. (And I wonder if I need to give her admin status back. And you are so loyal here at the start, I wonder what to give to you too.) I think of Laura like that because I want her to feel part of it, and she is used to having a position. I'd like to have her here everyday, to make a home here for herself. (And I want her to write something too!) But for the moment, I'm just thinking of things; not offering anything (yet) to anyone. I remember at BL, the whole membership was the mods!!!! (I should have left that word censored as "assholes", like I had it! ) (that would be hilarious) Well, I don't think assigning 5 mods to a dead forum is a way of forcing a minimal membership to be there. I gotta get us an audience somehow.
Alright.
I'll name it this week, and maybe we can make a header, and the homepage colored nicely, like you wanted? (In fact, maybe I'll name it today, now. In a couple hours, why not)
Next week, a regular schedule has to happen. So: one full day advertising in creative ways, every week.
Plus along with the name, comes those ad/links which can be used here and there (hey that's how facebook got big, lol)
That's best I got now.

Re: Editor's Blog, by Hunny
Dear Diary,
I had a learning experience today.
I googled one of the names I used to post as, at Yahoo Answers,
and found endless pages of my answers that I wrote (my work, and
my name) having been stolen, to make fake websites with.
Some were scams, which wanted people to order a product they would never receive.
But most were fake forums. And again: there were uncountable pages of these in the
search results (yea, I wrote a lot of answers back then). Well, apparently, shady people
google a topic, they find my YA answer, and steal it to post in their alleged "forum",
pretending I'm one of their members! Huh!
Seriously, I'm pretty sure I never visited any of those places! Wow.
What I couldn't figure out is what is the purpose of these fake forums? Are they
also part of a scam site? Well, it's a good bet someone building anything bonafide
wouldn't steal answers from the internet, and create a bunch of fake members, to
make a non-existent site look like a site.
Well anyway, I'm glad I have WOT site rater, because a lot of these were red rated,
and I could have gotten a virus investigating how I got robbed.
And I got robbed. I'm a fake member of hundreds of websites!! yeesh.

I've been looking for what our name could be.
BS.com is taken
TheMuse.com is VERY taken
names we could have are:
bvllshit.com
bullshlt.com (there's an L, instead of an i there - hard to see)
What I was after was a two word name that abbreviates to "BS"
I also liked the idea of re-naming the magazine (and perhaps whole site) as "Cheeky"
Cheeky means:
offensively bold; lacking restraint or modesty; disrespectful in speech or behaviour; brash, brazen, nervy, impudent (Not showing due respect for another person; impertinent. ; marked by contemptuous or cocky boldness or disregard of others : insolent.
shameless or brazenly immodest.
mischievous, impertinent, or disrespectful
—Synonyms
1. insulting, rude; saucy, pert; presumptuous, fresh, brazen. See impertinent.
—Antonyms
1. courteous.
That sounds about right.
(but Cheeky is taken)
(he he "butt cheeky" *laughs like Beavis* )

Dear Diary -
I have a terrible toothache, and must go to the dentist.
It's raining. I have to take a cab.
I can't even have my morning coffee because of it.
I hate toothaches. Toothaches suck.
When I have that out of the way though, I have tons of ideas I can't wait to explore here.
New things for the magazine. New games that will actually be fun. Contests. Hilarious threads. Interesting threads. I'm brimming with ideas as if doing this is everything all the rule-inflicters at previuous sites made me think of but wouldnt let me publish. And I just know this place is going to burst into life, if i simply keep coming every day and doing what I have to do.
It has only been two weeks. I can see this week is going to details and toothaches and appointments in outside world. But.. ..I still pursue identifying a theme we can heavily advertise. We need a theme, it should be unique (they can only get it here), and then the name brands that for us. If I don't do this, we'll end up stuck with "BS", and it seems ok the longer that name is there, but ... oops, gotta go! xd

Well I heard from Mikii.
And my tooth has stopped hurting.
So all is right in the universe again.
Also I started making something disturbing and gross, in a jar (bwaa ha ha! erm I mean, I am making a "Captain Meow Tumbleweed" (for that thread). As you may know I have hardwood floors, and a cat, so yes, there are real tumbleweeds (made of cat hair) which roll around it, driven by the wind caused by people walking by. Well, I have collected a handful. I didn't know where to put it until it gets big enough to photograph (and then throw away ew) (well, you hope I throw it away he he
ok, that's all for the moment, now i have to go do something with tinfoil...

I had to stop and reformat my computer last night. I've been at it for 25 hours solid. I'll sleep now, and do 2 more hours tommorow, then it will all be back in one piece.
It's been quite a spate of interruptions in the last two weeks. - my tooth, some sick people who wanted me to file police reports on them, and now my computer needs a rebuild. Well, I just get it done, and move on to the next thing, and keep moving, that's all.
And now for some nice delicious sleep...

I'll probably enjoy that.
I haven't got much "editor" things to discuss.

I left you a happy bday comment on Facebook the day of your birthday and you didn't answer ): HAPPY BDAY AGAIN!! (now back to study )

Are you an alien? : On other planets I am.

Dear Diary-
No one's posting. How depressing.
I'm seriously starting to miss my friends.
I need very much to get our first wave of incoming members here, so
it will be interesting to come and be in on what is developing in our community.
Not that I'm naming names, but JL and Toki know who they are XD
And Mikii.
Oh and I also wonder where Maja is. Actually I haven't heard from her in so long,
I'm definitely worried she is ok. Maybe relationship problems have made her sad?
I don't know. I hope she comes to see me soon. I care.
In site news, I joined a forum about coding and marketing as a website. Lol, I post
there daily instead of here lately (oops).. But it's very good for me to be around
others who are running sites too. I intend, and give all to, making this site flourish and pay.
I need to buy a house now. And a good revenue model online can do that for me. Why not.
I work.
But yea, I have to advertise for members.
I have to advertise for members.
I have to advertise for members.
(And did i mention, I have to.. oh yes, I said that XD
I love you guys. Keep coming. The fun is about to begin!
I work 16 hours every day building this site. When I have it
done adequately, and can just run the forum as weekly
maintenance work, THEN I can start producing the new magazine,
getting members, and advertising & branding our site.
So far I have spent zero time on that. The truth is we aren't officially
open for business yet, until that first magazine posts, and running this
is just maintenance to me.
When will that be? I'm hoping for July 1.
(Though I will put that date off a week, if I need to, because there's
no way I'm going to put out a rushed,. half-assed magazine as our
premiere issue. Quality matters. THEN reliability can be the focus...
Stay tuned.
I'm going to go write the "Guide To Ferbles" now. (That's a good sign.
It says there's a Ferbles to write a guide for; it says we are getting close
to being a built site...

Did you know women control 80% of the money? And do 80% of the shopping? Yep. They have almost ALL the money and control of spending it. So I think if making money is a concern, we need to market to women. To that end, I have started what I hope will become our revenue model (the aspect of the site that makes the money).
Women love shopping, and getting the best deal. I'd like to see - and help them to have - some say in what we get for products from the business people.
If this works, it will gain us both quality advertisers, and that we'd be where women go to have their say. We'll be their tool for democracy in the marketplace. See? And I love that idea, of empowering women, as part of what we do (and so not merely "selling ad space", to hawk any old crappy goods at them
So please be supportive. The content, and the community here is what Ferbles is, but that forum section about shopping is what can make us. (I hope). (Well, I'm not going to stop trying, so something needs to work, because I will never stop trying and working hard to make Ferbles work. So..TALK SHOPPING! Please.
And post will ya?.. I will get members. I must get members. Then you will post? Okay. This week, members will come, and you can get interested again..
